Event Information

‘Rewilder’ is a five-day cycling, bike-packing, food and drink festival.

Come and share your love and passion, ideas and stories be it cycling, food, creative or the great outdoors and join like minded people in this largely undiscovered corner of Southern France.

It’s about disconnecting from the modern world and reconnecting with nature in our own backyard; the Pyrénées. You’ll spend your first night at Zero Neuf and then two nights camping under the stars, before returning to base camp to feast on incredible food, enjoy local beer and wine and listen and dance to live music. It’s not a race; it’s an experience, an adventure and an escape.

The Ariège has an endless supply of mixed terrain perfectly designed for bike packing adventures; from disused railway lines and river gorges, to high mountain passes and ancient forest. It also has the cleanest air in France and great swathes of stunning countryside far removed from the madding crowd. We’ll shred tarmac, single track, double track and lots of white gravel. We’ll light camp fires and drink beer. Zero Neuf ride leaders will guide the way and two very special guests will join the fun. Katherine Moore; bikepacking, route mapping, gravel expert and wonderful human being and Tomás Montes, photographer and all round super nice guy.

The event will be supported by our friends at Mason Cycles, Komoot, Workshop Coffee and Café du Cycliste.

Proposed Itinerary

Day One

If you’re flying down, we’ll collect you from the airport and on arrival at Zero Neuf we’ll organise the bike builds and bike fits whilst you enjoy an evening apéro. Then it’s dinner and an early night.

Day Two

Day One / Distance 75km / Elevation 1000m

After a good breakfast and plenty of fresh coffee, we’ll clip in and head south towards Ax-Les-Thermes. With the high mountains in almost constant view, the route is a mix of wide gravel tracks, tarmac, single and double track. We’ll be taking our time, this adventure has been designed to allow you to regain contact with yourself. Tomás will be photographing the journey so you can keep your phones tucked away. We want you to ride with your head up so you can fully immerse yourself in your surroundings. We’ll have camp set up, with beers chilled and fire lit when you arrive.

Day Three

Day Two / Distance 65km / Elevation 1600m

We’ll be riding up into the high mountains today; a day big on the mind blowing view scale, our ride leaders will make sure your time is spent enjoying the stunning scenery and the day’s route. Lunch will be taken at the route’s high point and one of our favourite spots – a truly unique experience. With the hardest section of the route completed, we’ll spend the late afternoon descending to camp. Stories of the day’s adventures will be retold around the camp fire over a local beer.

Day Four

Day Three / Distance 60km / Elevation 570m

We’ll work our way back to Zero Neuf today and the route will have a bit of everything; with the bulk of the climbing done, we’ll be rolling on gravel, single track and tarmac. A parcours punctuated with lovely medieval villages and auto lit railway tunnels, we’ll stop for a dip in Lac Montbel and have lunch waterside. We’ll make our way to the beautiful medieval Mirepoix for ice-cream before joining the GR78 trail all the way back to Zero Neuf. After a hot shower at HQ you’ll enjoy pre-dinner drinks before Joss treats you to a delicious three-course meal.

Day Five

Depending on flight times you can enjoy the remaining time at Zero Neuf or take a short local spin. You can walk to the bottom of the garden for a spot of river dipping or you may prefer to switch off in a hammock or snooze around the pool. The time is yours. We’ll make sure you are back at the airport in good time for your return flights.
